Featured Dog: Ernie – ADOPTED!

Ernie’s a 5+ yrs old “skipper-key” (at least, that’s what it sounds like to me) mix, but don’t let his age deter you. He’s oodles of fun and he’s got lots of energy left. But because he’s an adult, and has been trained nicely, he doesn’t have all the angst that puppies sometimes have, and he’s nicely focused and relatively well-behaved. He knows ‘sit’ and walks very nicely and does his business.

Some dogs were born to do just one thing- herding, being lapwarmers, etc, but Ernie was born to do one thing- to chase toys and catch them in the air with amazing accuracy. He really lives for the times when he can be in the exercise pen and we throw the ball back and forth for him to catch. If you do visit him, please ask to play with him in exercise pen– it’s well worth the effort. You can also see a small movie of Ernie’s fetching prowess here. It’s quite entertaining!

Ernie is that easy to please– just give him a good toy (preferrably something bouncy) and he’ll be content. So if you’re looking for a low-maintenance dog and have a great yard and enjoy playing with dogs, Ernie might be your guy.

To visit this great guy, come to the shelter and visit Ernie in Kennel P5. For more information, please leave a comment here or email doginfo@apsofdurham.org

I just saw the picture of Ernie and he looks exactly like my dog. His name is Tucker and he is a rescue dog as well, who is about 5 years old. We got him in Savannah, GA and just recently moved up to Durham, NC. I have never seen another dog that even looks close to Tucker so I was really surprised to see Ernie’s picture.
