Featured Dog: Savannah – GBNF

It’s easy to pass by Savannah or read her story and feel pity for her background. However, when you meet her, you see no traces of her rough past (other than torn ears), and her quiet but winning personality will charm you. She’s an older adult Foxhound (could be 5 years old) with the eagerness of a puppy, but without the spaz and short attention span. She’s just discovering how being around humans can be blissful, and she’s soaking up every moment.

She loves treats, though she likes being around people more.

She particularly loves having her ears and head rubbed, getting hugs, being talked to in an affectionate voice, and rewards you with some of the biggest smiles I’ve seen on a dog.

Because she’s pretty settled, Savannah is good for anyone looking for a dog who’s calm yet enthusiastic, and would be perfect for someone with lots of love to share. She isn’t particularly energetic, though she LOVES her walks.

Won’t you give this wonderful girl a second chance?

You have done great work showing Savannah to her best. I’ve been tracking her since we adopted another dog from the shelter in July, hoping she’d get a good home. I saw she was adopted and now she’s back on the front page. Did the adoption fall through?

Yes. If you know anyone who would like to adopt Savannah or be a good fit, be sure to point them in that direction. 🙂 Thanks!

I am so sad to see that Savannah is still up for adoption. I would love to adopt her but I already have 2 dogs. She reminds me of my dog Geno (known at the Durham APS as Calvin). He was also neglected. Geno had really poor dentition, just like Savannah does as seen in her pictures. But, Dr. Hoover fixed Geno’s teeth & he’s as happy as can be now. I hope someone gives Savannah the happy home that she deserves. Geno is the most loving dog and I bet Savannah would be the same. She did not have a good past so it may take a little for her to adjust to a new home. It took Geno a little while to get used to a routine but he is the best dog now. Savannah just needs someone to be patient and kind with her and give her a chance to live life to its fullest.
