Puppy Friday: Derek – ADOPTED!

This handsome little fella is Derek, a 5 months old pit/lab mix.

You’d never guess from the pictures that Derek came into the shelter with his brother, Drew, starving and emaciated. He’s now at his normal weight, healthy, and happy.

He knows ‘sit’ and loves to do so for treats. Initially, he was more of a “eat-everything-in-sight” guy but he’s become more restrained and confident from his training.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he still thought that food falls from the sky and that one should look up with his mouth open, just in case. 🙂

Other than food, Derek likes to play with stuffed toys. His favorite is a good game of tug.

I think he’s also in the process of learning ‘fetch,’ though he likes running around and playing with other puppies as well.

Derek would be a very fun puppy to train and to walk. So far, he seems to get along with other dogs, and would be a great second canine companion.

Here’s a video of Derek playing and learning ‘sit:’
