Featured Dog: Hazel – ADOPTED!

This is Hazel, a 1- 1 1/2 year old hound mix with very cute floppy ears.

She’s very eager to please, and loves food treats.

She’s a little shy, and is still learning ‘sit.’

As you can tell, she’s progressing very nicely! She’d also love to got to additional training classes to boost her confidence.

She walks very nicely and loves playing with her toys. Considering her age and size, I’d expected her to be more energetic, but she’s actually very gentle.

She also likes other dogs and would probably love to play with them.

UPDATE: Hazel is currently in foster care- please see comments below on how well she’s doing! For more information on Hazel, please contact doginfo@apsofdurham.org or leave a comment below.

Note: the featured dog can be located at Animal Protection Society of Durham

We are fostering Hazel and she is a delightful little dog, 35-pounds of wiggles and smiles, with a really cool sort of tie-dyed brown coat and cute long toes (we call them hobbit’s feet). Hazel gets along beautifully with our 1-year-old larger dog, playing at chase and bitey-face when they aren’t lying down together. She kennels, potties and eats well and has adapted into our househeld already. She likes all the people as well as the cats in our household, and we are enjoying getting to know Hazel.

  2. Julia Love (fostering Hazel) says:

Hazel continues to be a delightful foster dog. She is more comfortable now, so we’re seeing her true personality. Which is fun and happy- she wags her tail a lot, even when she’s eating or drinking. Hazel knows the drill. She’ll sit and wait for the signal before eating, go into the kennel with the command “kennel up”, sit politely waiting for a treat, go in and out easily, and even wait up to have her dirty feet wiped. Hazel loves chew toys but has no destructive chewing tendencies. She and our dog are now great buddies, and the cats like her too. But while Hazel likes other animals, she is a people dog. She’ll check with me for a little pat many times during the day, although sometimes she wiggles so much she does all the work with patting. Her main pasttime, though, is sleeping. Hazel loves her little dog bed, although there are many times when shel will just plop down on the floor (where she is right now!).
